Painting
Poleng is a typical Balinese cloth with a black and white checked pattern which demonstrate all opposites : heaven and earth, day and night, good and evil. Ostenrik employed this symbol in a series of pictures which he analyzed and delved into his thoughts regarding contrast and infinite variety. The poleng serves as the basis for the compositions in a formal as well as in a signifying sense where other colors are interwoven and absorbed. The rigidity of the pattern is softened by the use of colors and quick , short brushstrokes.
